Privacy Policy
DHC values the trust that our customers place in us by providing us with their personal
information. This Privacy Policy sets out how DHC collects, uses and protects any
information that you give DHC. By using this website and/or placing orders with
DHC, you are accepting and consenting to the practices described in this Privacy
Policy. Please review this policy periodically as it is updated from time to time.
This policy was last revised in January 2009.
Privacy Principles
DHC has always been, and will continue to be, committed to maintaining the accuracy,
confidentiality and security of your personal information. As part of this commitment,
we have adopted the 10 Principles established by the Canadian Standards Association's
Model Code for the protection of personal information within this Privacy Policy.
These principles form part of the Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic
Documents Act (the "Act") and substantially similar provincial laws, which establish
rules governing the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by the
private sector.
What Information We Collect
When you register and/or shop with us, we ask for your name, telephone number(s),
home address, email address and, occasionally in connection with competitions, promotions,
prize giveaways or newsletters, we may ask your age or the month and date of your
birth. When you make a purchase on our site, we ask for your delivery address, billing
address and payment method details. We may also obtain information about your usage
of our website and your transaction history to help us improve our service to you.
Our collection of your personal information will be limited to what is reasonable
and appropriate under the circumstances. Your personal information is kept confidential
and secure. You have the right to access your own personal information and to correct
any inaccuracies.
If you provide us with the name and address of another individual in connection
with our Share & Save program, you represent and warrant that you have all necessary
authority and/or have obtained all necessary consents from such individuals to enable
us to collect, use and disclose such personal information in accordance with this
Privacy Policy.
As used in this policy, "personal information" is information about an identifiable
individual other than the name, business address or telephone number of an employee
of an organization. Personal information does not include aggregated information
that does not allow an individual to be identified. It is entirely your choice whether
or not you provide us with your personal information, however, deciding to withhold
personal information may restrict or prevent us from serving you with respect to
certain products or services.
We do not request that you provide any information that may be considered personal
health information. However, in the process of answering your questions or providing
you with products and services, you may inadvertently provide us with information
that may indicate a health or medical condition (e.g., the condition of your skin).
We record and use this information only to help us provide you with better customer
service. This information is never shared or disclosed.
How Do We Use Your Personal Information?
All of the information we collect via our website or through email or telephone
correspondence with you is used to fulfill your order, notify you about important
changes to our website or services, and continuously improve our service. We may
use service providers (i.e. credit card processors, package carriers) to assist
us with processing your order and, if so, we will provide them only with the information
needed to perform these services. We only use service providers with privacy practices
that are consistent with ours. By using our website and/or placing an order with
DHC, you acknowledge and consent that we may release information about you to them
for the purpose of providing the services in question. We are located in the United
States and some of our selected third party service providers/business partners
may also be located outside of Canada. As a result, you should know that your personal
information may be accessible to regulatory authorities in accordance with the laws
of other jurisdictions.
We may, from time to time, send you information about our products, details of promotions
and special offers via email or post. We give you the option not to be contacted
by post or by email regarding special product information or offers. In addition
to checking a box on our Checkout Page to opt-out from receiving emails, to opt-out
from receiving post and/or email, you can send your request to: DHC, P.O. Box 140,
Station A, Toronto, ON M5W 1A2, or call one of our customer service representatives
at 1.800.DHC.CARE (342-2273). Please note that you will still receive customer service
related communications from us related to your transactions (for example, order
confirmations). While we respond to requests and make changes as quickly as possible,
some solicitation files may have been created prior to your request (e.g. catalogue
distribution lists), so there could be a period of time after the date of your request
during which time you may receive additional DHC marketing.
On occasion, we may share your information (but never your email or phone number)
with other high-quality companies that may subsequently send you information about
their products and services as long as your information is submitted by two or more
participating companies. If your information is unique to DHC, it will not be shared.
If you do not want us to share your information you may opt out by simply writing
to us at: Attention: Do Not Share, DHC, P.O. Box 140, Station A, Toronto, ON M5W
1A2, or by calling one of our customer service representatives at 1.800.DHC.CARE
(342-2273).
DHC will keep your personal information only for as long as it is required for our
reasonable business and/or legal needs in relation to the consent that has been
provided. Your personal information may also be used to create statistics about
our business.
Giving Consent
We will only collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent,
except where otherwise permitted or required by law. New purposes will be identified
and new consent will be obtained prior to using personal information that was previously
obtained. We do not, as a condition of the supply of a product or service to you,
require you to consent to the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information
beyond that information which is required to complete the transaction. By using
this website and/or placing orders with DHC, you are accepting and consenting to
the practices described in this Privacy Policy. You may contact us as described
herein to withdraw your consent to further collection, use and disclosure of your
personal information, subject to any legal or contractual restrictions.
